Distribution Management Founder Tom Fleming Passes; Remembered for Integrity and Compassion

Tom Fleming, a former typewriter salesman in St. Louis who went on to launch Distribution Management—an industry-leading national distribution and fulfillment organization with six locations—passed away March 29 at his home.

The company founder and chairman, Mr. Fleming opened Distribution Management in 1972, establishing the firm with a strong set of core values that continue to guide and define the company today. The Distribution Management team credits his visionary leadership, resilience, dedication and unwavering commitment to his employees with being instrumental to the success of the organization for more than 50 years.

“Tom Fleming was more than a visionary entrepreneur—he was a leader of men with a profound heart for his employees,” noted Greg Welchans, president and CMO of Distribution Management. “His legacy is one of integrity, compassion and unwavering dedication. Tom will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

After stepping down from day-to-day leadership, Mr. Fleming served as Distribution Management’s chairman of the board for the past 12 years. His nephew, Sean Fleming, has been the company CEO for the past 15 years.

In a release, the company said Mr. Fleming was integral in providing support, encouragement and wisdom to the company’s leaders. “His presence and guidance will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of working with him. Tom’s legacy will remain a cornerstone of Distribution Management as we continue to move forward, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him.”
