The imaging community is mourning the loss of Jarrod McCarthy, Epson’s South region business development manager for the BTA/dealer channel. He passed away Sept. 7 at the age of 46.
Mr. McCarthy’s industry career began in 1997 when he became a major account representative for IKON Office Solutions. Following its acquisition, he joined Ricoh Americas, initially as a health care account manager before taking on various sales roles within the organization, culminating with director of channel marketing for major and strategic accounts.
In 2013, Mr. McCarthy took a position with OKI Data Americas as regional sales manager, then national sales director for the BTA channel. He joined Epson in July of 2017, where he served the manufacturer’s South region BTA dealer channel clients.
“Jarrod has always been held in the highest esteem by all who were fortunate to know him, including his colleagues, Epson partners and customers,” said Mark Mathews, vice president, North America commercial sales and marketing, Epson. “His loss is felt throughout our organization, and we will do our best to honor him by continuing his great work and demonstrating the respect, diligence and care he exemplified. He will truly be missed.”
Adam Gregory, president of Advanced Business Solutions of St. Augustine, Florida, believes Mr. McCarty embodied the ideal for OEM-dealer relationship building.
“Jarrod McCarthy was more than a manufacturer representative. He was a friend,” Gregory said. “He was the icon of how manufacturer representatives should build relationships with their dealers. He loved BTA, and man, we had some good times at BTA shows, especially in Orlando at Disney. There are few men of his caliber and we will surely miss our business relationship. But more importantly, we will miss our friend.”
Noted Jim Buck, a manager with Carolina Business Equipment in Charlotte, North Carolina: “I have had the privilege of working with Jarrod over the last 15 years. His love for his family, the industry and his customers is what defined him. He is one of the good guys, and his passion and friendship will be greatly missed.”
Mr. McCarthy graduated from Liberty University with a bachelor’s degree from the Helms School of Government.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, he spent time in Philadelphia and North Carolina, then fulfilled his family’s dream of moving to Florida. An avid fan of Penn State football with an infectious personality, Mr. McCarthy also had a passion for all things Disney, golf and the BTA community. Above all else, he’s been described as a family man who loved and adored his wife, children and grandchild.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sarah; four children (Tricia, Layla, Aiden and Quinn) and one granddaughter, Ava. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to help fund college tuition for his two youngest children. The donations page can be found here.
