Beacon, NY (March 31, 2025) — DocuWare, a leading provider of document management and workflow automation solutions, announced co-President Max Ertl is stepping down, with co-President Dr. Michael Berger taking the helm as CEO.

Berger established an executive management-level team that will support him in driving the company’s overall growth trajectory. The experience and vision of this team will support growth and innovation, expand the company’s global footprint, streamline operations and ensure DocuWare is always at the forefront of technological operational and market advancements.

The leadership team will consist of Michael Bochmann, chief product and technology officer; Benedikt Dischinger, CFO; Uta Dresch, COO; and Hermann Schäfer, chief sales and marketing officer.

“I am honored to work with this exceptional group,” Berger said. “Their expertise and dedication to DocuWare and its people will be instrumental in leading our company to new heights. … on behalf of all of us at DocuWare, I especially thank Max for his dedication and valuable contribution over the last 24 years, for his great achievements as a sales and marketing leader, and for our close collaboration during our time as co-presidents.”

Some background on DocuWare’s C-level team members:

Berger began his career in innovation and management roles at Siemens – a German multinational technology conglomerate. In 2008, he joined DocuWare, working at the company’s German headquarters as vice president R&D and then as CTO. Following the acquisition of DocuWare by Ricoh in 2019, Berger and Ertl became managing directors of DocuWare GmbH and co-presidents of the global DocuWare Group. Berger was president of product, services, and finance, leading the company with Ertl, who was responsible for sales and marketing. In his roles, Berger successfully expanded the product portfolio, ensured outstanding company performance and led strategic initiatives and acquisitions that fortified the company’s growth trajectory. He was appointed Ricoh CTO advisor in 2024.

Since joining DocuWare in 2023, Bochmann maintained the position of managing director, DocuScan, a company he co-founded, and which was acquired by DocuWare. Over the last two years, he has played a key role in identifying and preparing for the use of new innovative technology. Following the merger’s completion in early 2025, he began the transition to his new role as CPTO. In this capacity, Bochmann will oversee DocuWare’s product strategy and technology development, driving product innovation and excellence to maintain DocuWare’s competitive edge in the global marketplace.

Since joining DocuWare in 2016, Dischinger has held a wide range of responsibilities spanning the entire enterprise – from overseeing strategic initiatives and global budget planning to shaping a positive and collaborative corporate culture through talent recruitment and development. In his new role as CFO, Dischinger will oversee the departments of people and culture, corporate IT, legal and compliance, strategy and controlling and will remain responsible for finance. He will also replace Ertl as a member of the DocuWare shareholder advisory board.

Since joining DocuWare in 2018, Dresch successfully established the company’s client experience management division, which meticulously outlined customer and partner journeys; analyzed feedback; and designed initiatives to enhance overall client experience and improve customer satisfaction and loyalty. Through cross-functional collaboration and engagement, the division succeeded in delivering a seamless, customer-centric approach across the organization. In her new role as COO, Dresch will also oversee global customer support and professional services, as well as the day-to-day operations of DocuWare to ensure continued efficiency and optimization of internal processes.

Since joining DocuWare in 2008, Schäfer has held several key positions within the company’s fast-growing sales organization. Throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in developing and strengthening the partner channel in EMEA. His efforts and leadership here have resulted in a significant increase in the number of global partners and substantial growth in the company’s sales. In his new role as CSMO, Schäfer will assume global responsibility for sales and marketing within DocuWare. He will continue to define strategic sales and marketing initiatives aimed at contributing to revenue growth and customer acquisition. Additionally, Schäfer will oversee efforts to elevate the DocuWare brand to the level of a more internationally recognizable player in the global ECM arena.
