Feb. 22 – Océ, a Canon Group company, has extended its continuous feed portfolio with the launch of the new Océ JetStream 1900 printing system. The Océ JetStream 1900 system offers a printing speed of 417 feet per minute, equivalent to just over 25,000 feet per hour, in digital full color. For top quality requirements, the premium mode enables printing at 600 x 600 dpi at 328 feet per minute or 1,428 letter images per minute.

Top North American School Districts Choose Print Audit
Feb. 22 – Print Audit, the print management company, has become the print management provider of choice among North American school districts. By student population, one third of the Top 50 North American school districts now use Print Audit 6 to track and control their printing costs, according to the company.
With many school districts facing spending cuts, more are turning to print management solutions in order to help them reduce waste among students and staff. Print Audit 6 gives educational facilities a number of cost cutting options. For example, many K-12 schools use the software to encourage students to become more eco-friendly and cost conscience by limiting how many pages they can print in a semester. Schools can also enforce printing Rules such as requiring large jobs to be sent to the most efficient printing devices.
Print Audit 6 has become a popular choice among school districts due to its small software footprint and flexible tracking options. Because Print Audit 6 is client-based and priced by the number of workstations being tracked, not by the number of users, schools can use the system to control printing from an unlimited number of students and staff members at an affordable price.
Clark-Shawnee Local Schools of Ohio found their printing was reduced by 56 percent after installing Print Audit 6. “After using 180,000 sheets of paper the first week of school, I decided it was time to monitor the printing in our relatively small district of approximately 2,500 students and 150 teachers,” says Chuck Wickline, the network administrator for Clark-Shawnee. “The same time a year later, after providing Print Audit feedback reports to administration on individual department and teacher usage, our consumption went down to 80,000 sheets.”

Panasonic Debuts Next-Gen ‘Image Capture Plus’ Workgroup Scanner
Feb. 20 – Panasonic System Communications Company of North America has announced the release of the KV-S1065C, a workgroup scanner incorporating Panasonic’s proprietary Active Double-Feed Prevention, LED scanning illumination, advanced image processing, and Image Capture Plus technologies.
Features include independently rotating rollers and Panasonic’s proprietary Active Double-Feed Protection system to minimize paper skewing and to prevent double-feeding; automatic-output speed reduction for short documents; mixed paper and hard-card scanning; as well as ultrasonic detection of non-standard documents, such as envelopes, and documents with attached “sticky notes.” In addition, when a scanned image is missing due to an inadvertently folded corner (dog-ear) or a document that is extremely skewed, the Dog-Ear Detection function automatically and temporarily stops the scanning.
Imaging features incorporate an energy-saving LED scanning-section illumination array, Automatic Image Emphasis for text- and line-sharpening, and auto brightness and contrast optimization of scanned images – even on documents with varied paper and text colors.`
The KV-S1065C ships with Panasonic’s latest Image Capture Plus software package. Image Capture Plus automates a host of traditionally time-consuming multi-step tasks – such as rotation of documents loaded into the paper feeder in different directions. With Image Capture Plus, users can directly scan documents into editable OCR text, or scan them as PDF, JPEG, TIFF, and bitmap files, then automatically save them into specific folders. Text-searchable PDF and PDF/A files can also be generated in a simple one-step process..

Print Audit Launches New Business Model for Print Management
Feb. 1 – Print Audit has followed up its best revenue month ever with the launch of a disruptive new business model. In the past, print management solution sales have greatly benefited end-user organizations and software vendors but they have put little into the pocket of the office equipment provider. Print Audit is changing that with the launch of Print Audit Premier.
Print Audit Premier is a new subscription plan that gives dealers access to all of Print Audit’s products for one low monthly fee. Premier subscribers will receive access to an exclusive Web portal which will help track the programs three brand promises which are to help dealers win new customers, keep current customers, and make a lot of money, according to Print Audit.
The subscription program is disruptive in that it greatly increases office equipment dealers’ profit margins on print management solution sales. With the program, dealers can charge their customers for Print Audit’s software under a per page or device model, while only paying a fixed cost to Print Audit. This means that the dealer’s profits go up with every customer they sell to.
Print Audit’s statistics show that 80 percent of MPS and equipment deals are won using device and user assessment tools. Premier provides a full array of print management tools that can be used to uncover more sales opportunities, truly manage printing in any environment, lower print costs and add value to the dealers machines in field.
