M&A Roundup: Doing Better Business, EDGE Business Systems Complete Deals; ACT Group and BDS Merge

M&A activity continues at a brisk pace with a pair of deals that were announced too late for inclusion in our May 6 newsletter. That’s essentially four deals in a week’s time, and a number of dealers have intimated they are on the brink of closing out additions to their organizations.

Sweeping up last week, Doing Better Business (DBB) of Altoona, Pennsylvania, onboarded Multiscope Document Solutions, with locations in Bridgeville and Erie, Pennsylvania. In the Deep South, EDGE Business Systems of Atlanta inked an accord to add North Georgia Business Machines, a multi-line dealer based in Dalton, Georgia.

In another deal completed last month, ACT Group of Cromwell, Connecticut, has merged with BDS of Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Multiscope is a leading provider of managed document and print solutions that was founded in 2009 by Michael McCay as a provider of production print and enterprise fleet solutions. A Canon dealer with Toshiba and HP products under its flag, Multiscope helps solidify DBB as the region’s largest and most successful independent provider of office technology products and services, according to Debra Dellaposta, DBB’s president and CEO.

The deal also sees DBB retain Multiscope’s entire technical and solutions team to continue providing top-flight customer service to Multiscope’s client base.

Deb Dellaposta, DBB

“We see this as a great opportunity to provide cross-training across our entire organization to be able to deliver our award-winning level of customer service to the greatest number of organizations, regardless of brand,” Dellaposta said. “Every acquisition brings even more talent as we continue to expand our array of cloud solutions to help our customers do better business.

“Multiscope is bringing us the experienced talent we need to succeed with larger organizations who have their own print shops, as well as some unique perspectives on managed fleet services.  We are excited to merge best practices to bring even more efficiencies to our clients.”

Industry veteran Woodrow (Woody) Moss will be leading Multiscope as vice president of sales. “I am so excited to be a part of the DBB Family,” he said. “I am confident from what I have experienced so far that this is a great opportunity for us to really grow in all of our markets.”

Joseph Dellaposta, DBB

DBB continues to aggressively expand and is excited about the growth potential in the Erie market. “The timing is right for this expansion, as all of our manufacturers have repeatedly asked us to move into this space,” said Joseph Dellaposta, chief operations officer for DBB. “We wish Mike (McCay) all the best on his next adventure, and we are committed to making sure all of the Multiscope customers are extremely happy.”

Deb Dellaposta noted the company is exploring further opportunities, some of which she expects to announce in the coming months.

EDGE Business Systems-North Georgia Business Machines

EDGE Business Systems (EDGE), a leading provider of comprehensive document technology solutions to businesses across Georgia and the U.S., is excited to announce the acquisition of North Georgia Business Machines and the opening of a new office in Dalton, Georgia. EDGE is eager to serve the North Georgia region with a local presence of staff and technicians and is committed to continuing to deliver the same product and service excellence to new and existing customers.

North Georgia Business Machines was an office technology staple in Dalton and the surrounding areas for over 23 years, mainly focused on providing Toshiba and Lexmark technology. In addition to offering Toshiba and Lexmark, EDGE document technology solutions also include best-in-the-industry manufacturers such as Canon, Xerox, HP, Cleartouch, FP and KIP.

In addition to its wide variety of hardware solutions, EDGE offers document management and security, scanning, document storage, workflow automation, mailing and shipping, and managed print services. Its comprehensive document technology solutions, partnered with award-winning technical and customer service, provide its customers the EDGE when it comes to achieving maximum productivity and efficiency.

“EDGE is very excited about this new opportunity in Dalton. We are looking forward to continuing the outstanding tradition of customer service that North Georgia Business Machines owners Kelly Fletcher and Dos Bramblett have established,” said EDGE founding partner Rick Duerr. “We are already in the process of meeting our ‘new’ NGBM customers and introducing these companies to the expanded offerings that EDGE can now bring to the area.”

ACT Group-BDS

ACT Group, New England’s resource center for integrated office solutions has merged with BDS, a cutting-edge provider of advanced office MFP copier-printer systems, preventive maintenance, postage solutions and document management technology. Merger discussions first started in June of last year and were finalized on April 14.

“I started BDS 11 years ago with the simple mission of providing unparalleled levels of service and technology to our customers,” said Jason Alden, founder and CEO of BDS. “We’ve found the perfect partner, in ACT Group, that is as passionate about their customer’s success as we are.”

The merger of ACT Group fits perfectly into BDS’s growth strategy and goals to serve the New England business community. ACT Group’s 23-year history serving greater Connecticut provides an amazing opportunity for BDS to enhance customer experience and provide additional value and benefits, including customized preventive maintenance programs, faster response times, and broader access to cutting-edge technologies and solutions.

Greg Gondek, ACT Group

“Jason started with ACT Group in the very beginning and was one of our most valuable employees and a big part of our extended family. I am personally proud of his accomplishments and look forward to working with him. We will also be expanding and rebranding our ACT 3D division as a standalone organization and adding exciting new services and engineering solutions for our clients throughout New England,” said Greg Gondek, president, ACT Group.
