DivcoData, an industry-leading, all-inclusive print and mailing service provider based in Tennessee, processes many different types of statements, serving about 500 clients across 14 states. Entering the mailing business in 1995, John Dawson, managing partner of DivcoData, considers his company to be more traditional. “We had printing presses and black-and-white digital production machines that required multiple steps when printing,” said Dawson. “We’d print a shell creating a base template, typically in color, then we’d need to apply the black variable data on top of those preprinted shells.”
Logistically, this process became difficult to manage as the company grew. DivcoData began a quest to look for newer technology to meet increasing print volume demands, and in Dawson’s research, he found roll-fed inkjet technology to be the ultimate solution. However, it seemed to be cost prohibitive. “It required about a $1 million investment,” he said. “Eventually, we want to get into that platform, but we need something to fill in the gap between our digital production machines and roll-fed machines—that’s where the Epson products came in.”

“In the digital world, cost is based on every sheet of paper that comes out of the machine. Digital printers also come with fixed costs that are quite expensive,” Dawson explained. “With the WorkForce Enterprise inkjet printers, we moved away from the traditional processes and the need to produce shells and imprint black overprints. Now, we could do the entire job in one seamless pattern. Not only did we reduce logistics, but we also reduced our costs by going with the Epson units.
“The printers have also performed exceptionally well with very little downtime compared to the digital equipment, which constantly needed service.”

DivcoData currently has nine WorkForce Enterprise MFPs installed with finishers. “We opted to install the finishers to help increase output quantity and quality as well as save time on manual intervention,” said Dawson. “We serve about 75 utilities and waste management companies and process for about 150 county vehicle tag renewals—we have a multitude of clients. For one of them, we’re printing 8.5×14” colored tax bills and producing roughly 250,000 documents per month on one of the Epson units.”
