John Lowery, president of Applied Imaging has been named Ernst and Young (EY) LLP 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year for the Michigan/Northeast Ohio region. Lowery received the honor in the Business Services category at the organization’s 30th Anniversary celebration held, Thursday, June 23, at the Detroit Institute of the Arts.
Lowery, Michigan’s 2012 Small Businessman of the Year, was chosen by an independent judging panel made up of previous winners, along with CEO’s and other business leaders from the region. He is now eligible for EY Entrepreneur of the Year in his category as well as the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Overall National Award. Those selections will be announced this fall at the National Awards gala in Palm Springs, CA.

In accepting the honor, Lowery was quick to point out any individual awards represent his team’s dedication to outstanding customer service and a commitment to building and maintaining a culture that allows employees to thrive and not be afraid to dream.
“Any success we attain individually is a direct result of Applied Chemistry, the label we‘ve given to Applied Imaging’s culture,” said Lowery referring to the company’s 11 Elements that help provide focus and meaning to each employee’s role in the larger picture. “Technology drives our industry, so the changes in the last 30 years have been exponential. However, in spite of the more sophisticated products and services we now provide, it’s still the value each and every customer receives that makes Applied Imaging special. Watching my team successfully meet every challenge and obstacle, stay ahead of the technology curve and continue to achieve double-digit growth each year has been my dream turned into reality.”
Lowery founded Applied Imaging in 1987. From its roots in Grand Rapids, the company has grown to have 248 employees and offices in Kalamazoo, Lansing, Traverse City, Petoskey, Metropolitan Detroit (Novi), and most recently, Ann Arbor. Applied Imaging’s business includes the sales and service of
multifunction products, printers, high production printers, document storage and retrieval products, managed network services and software solutions that help customers be more productive and efficient when it comes to document workflow.
