As an industry, we spend a great deal of timing focusing on the tools and technology that help keep office technology dealers and their clients on the cutting edge of automation and workflow enhancements that enable them to thrive and prosper. But as any top executive will tell you, having all the technological firepower in the world isn’t what truly differentiates providers. It is the people who drive that technology who spell the difference between success and failure.

This is why every year we present to you the annual Difference Makers issue. From the most senior of executives in the corner offices of billion dollar manufacturers to the vice president of sales for a leading dealer, and on down to the savvy service technician with 10 or more years of outstanding performance, every successful organization boasts a true difference maker. The pages of our May issue will feature dozens of individuals from across the entire imaging channel ecosystem—dealers, VARs, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors—who have demonstrated a passion for their work that is evidenced by the success they enjoy on a daily basis.
This is where you come in. We’re asking you to submit nominations for the 2019 Difference Maker class. The only criteria we have is that 2018 honorees are ineligible for inclusion. Everyone else is fair game. It’s a simple process that takes about 10 minutes. Just point your mouse here to get started.
You’ll be asked to fill in basic contact information, then answer two questions. The first is a 100- to 250-word description on why you feel this candidate merits Difference Maker honors. I’ve included the sample submission:
“Joe Smith is the SR VP of business development and founder of Technology Inc. He has been involved in the office technology industry for more than 20 years, serving in various R&D capacities with Xerox, Ricoh and LMI Solutions before founding Technology Inc. in 2010. Joe also founded the Same Page peer group in 2012, which enables nationwide Xerox dealers to share best practices. He was presented with the Executive of Distinction award by the Lincoln, Nebraska Chamber of Commerce in 2014.”
The second part is a testimonial, roughly 50-200 words…don’t worry, we’re not counting, so it’s no big deal if your paragraph is a little short or long. This is where you can speak to your personal experiences with the individual. You can include a brief anecdote that illustrates the individual’s strength, character, dedication and determination. The testimonial adds life to the biographical info and paints a picture of the person as a true difference maker. Here’s an example of this:
“Joe has that infectious enthusiasm that makes you wish he would never stop talking. He takes great pains to ensure that working with Technology Inc. is a breeze for clients. Joe’s voracious appetite for the latest and greatest technologies is unsurpassed, yet he is first and foremost a people person. I’ve done business with him for more than 10 years and would be hard pressed to think of a more professional and genuine businessman who lives up to his word.”

We should all take a moment to acknowledge those people who help make our little corner of the universe a brighter place. As always, we thank you for making this recognition issue such a resounding success.
