I have two articles about young people in the industry running in this month’s issue of The Cannata Report.
It was a terrific topic to write about and I interviewed a dozen people under 40, one for an article focusing on young people working for dealerships and the other on young people working with the OEMs and solutions and services providers. Most of those I interviewed had no previous knowledge of this industry. Yet they’ve all settled in and are making valuable contributions to their organizations.
I had no knowledge of this business either when I started in this industry nearly 30 years ago. I was young, I was foolish, and I never expected to stick around as long as I have. Fortunately, I wised up over time and almost through osmosis learned a lot, forgot a lot, and have come to respect many of those in the business who keep the wheels turning and sales churning as well as serving as mentors to the young people entering the business.
Since I completed those two articles for The Cannata Report I’ve met other young people from the industry who are also making a difference. I always find it interesting how one finds their way into this industry, what they’ve grown to like about it, and what they bring to their organizations. I’ll bet the house that many of the people I interviewed for those Cannata Report articles are planning on staying for a long time. That bodes well not only for the companies they’re working for but for the future of the office imaging industry.
