If you’ve been around this industry as long as I have (28 years), and many of you have been here at least as long as I have, if not longer, you’ve seen a lot of comings and goings. Doors open and doors close. It’s the way it goes. Over the years we’ve all seen vendors, dealers, consultants and consulting firms, and publications come and go. It’s pretty much survival of the fittest.
The latest three publications to go down for the count are The Imaging Channel, Workflow, and Recharger from 1105 Media. As some of you may know, besides The Week in Imaging I contribute to a variety of industry publications and was thrilled back in late 2012 when Patricia Ames, publisher of those three publications asked me to become a monthly contributor. I have to thank Mike Stramaglio for making that introduction. It was a great gig…while it lasted…and the staff was terrific to work with.
There are plenty of rumors floating around as to what’s going to happen next with those three publications. I understand the assets are up for sale and some sort of deal may go down for one or all of these titles any day now. We’ll see. I’ve been around long enough and seen enough changes to know that there aren’t always happy endings. Sometimes things just end.
The world hasn’t been kind to the publishing industry of late whether it’s print or online. I feel lucky to still be here, actually anywhere for that matter, and the support of my sponsors and the dealer community has meant a lot.
Despite the changes in the publishing business, I still think this industry needs someone to write intelligently and consistently about what’s going on even if it’s only read by a chosen few. I’m hanging onto that thought and not letting go.
Thanks for reading and thanks for your support.
