I received an e-mail last Friday from a reader with an interesting observation about the first 20 names on The Week in Imaging’s Top 40 Most Influential People in the Imaging Industry list. “Most of them are old.”
That wasn’t meant to be negative, but was simply an observation—a surprisingly accurate observation although there’s a select few who made the list who haven’t hit 50 yet. This week’s group pretty much maintains the status quo.
What does that mean for the future of the industry? Are there any hot prospects down on the farm? I think so, we just don’t know about many of them yet.
Actually there are some movers and shakers under 50 that we can expect to hear more from in the future. I just returned from Lexmark’s dealer meeting in Lexington and they have a few hot prospects, including last week’s Top 40 selection, Phil Boatman. Watch out for these guys. Based on what I heard and saw in Lexington this past week, Lexmark continues to make inroads in the independent dealer channel and many of those inroads are being paved by an influential and talented team, most of whom are still south of the half century mark.
Don’t be surprised if these individuals become even more front and center in the channel in the not-too-distant future.
