Between the Lines: Really, Reed?

I received an e-mail last Friday morning from Reed Melnick, president of Nevill Business Machines asking me to call him about some big news out of Carrolton, Texas. Reed’s a great source and always responds when I need a quote or a perspective on some issue. I tried calling but missed him, leaving a message telling him I was swamped and maybe we could connect on Monday morning. Next thing I know he sends me the press release announcing the sale of Nevill to Kyocera Document Solutions America. That was big news so I called again but missed him. Fortunately we connected on Monday morning and I got the scoop on why this successful dealer and the President of Kyocera’s Dealer Council sold his dealership. That’s the main story in this week’s issue. In addition to outlining the reasons for the sale, he also addresses some of the rumors that I ended up hearing, completely unsolicited on late Friday afternoon and Monday morning. Wow, news sure does travel fast in this business.

This week I also continue with the second installment of my article on how office products dealers are selling MPS. You may not view them as competition, but in a world where everyone is selling MPS, it’s good to stay informed.

I want to thank the early birds for submitting their Elite Dealer nomination forms well before the Sept. 7 deadline. I’ve received quite a few so far, but for those of you who have yet to fill one out, there’s still plenty of time.

New content this week includes:
