Between the Lines: Laying Low and Layoffs

By the time you read this I’ll be laying low at a music conference in the Catskills. As some of you know when I’m not writing about the wonderful world of imaging technology, solutions, and services, I’m indulging my hobby as a monthly concert promoter. While there I’ll be moderating a couple of workshops and schmoozing with performers, agents, managers, radio folk, and concert promoters like myself. I’ll also be keeping ridiculously late hours, listening to music showcases into the early morning hours. It’s a nice diversion and we all need one from time to time although I’m not sure I’ve got the stamina to hang in until 3 a.m. three nights in a row.

While I’m away, I have a couple of interesting stories for you this week, including a piece on Tech AnyWare, the new venture from Digital Gateway’s former President, Jim Davis. Also on tap is a story on Xerox’s approach to data security.

Speaking of layoffs, as I did in my headline, our good friends at Industry Analysts reported last week that 220 Ricoh employees were laid off on Nov. 3. Those going included a mix of IKON and Ricoh employees at the director level and above. An official announcement has not been made but Industry Analysts says, “It appears that Ricoh is consolidating redundant positions in the field and possibly at Malvern, Pa. and West Caldwell locations.”

Although these developments at Ricoh are inevitable, we sympathize with those who are on the move. However, as is often the case in these situations, someone’s loss has the potential to be somebody else’s gain.

Okay, enough industry talk, I’ve got to get back to the music.

New content this week includes:

  •  Talking About Tech AnyWare
  • The Xerox Approach to Data Security
  • A new Sales Pitch from David Ramos
  • November News Bytes

Thanks for reading and be sure and check out our sponsors either in the e-blast or on our Website. They’re good guys who offer products, solutions and services with the potential to make a difference in your business.
