The whacky, 2002 live-action movie of Scooby-Doo can teach us about the ins and outs of teamwork and how that can apply to your IT marketing. Two years after the disbanding of the Mystery Machine team, Scooby-Doo and his fellow meddling kids: Fred, Daphne, Shaggy and Velma, are individually summoned to Spooky Island to investigate and decide to put the past behind them regarding their recent breakup.
The Importance of Valuing Training
The gang quickly realized that without each other they were distraught. They were a well-functioning team and without one another they couldn’t help but think about the Mystery Machine. In our businesses, we can have a similar approach. Every MSP must understand that it’s important to value everyone on a team. The team is only as strong as its weakest link, making it necessary for everyone be on the same page. Effective ways to do this are to gain the trust of your employees by spending one-on-one time with them and guiding them in the right direction.
Teaching them how to apply their skills to real-world practice by working with a team is one of the greatest lessons you can teach them. This clearly shows in Scooby-Doo as they realize that no single one of them can take on such daunting mysteries, but as a team, they are unstoppable.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
Another valuable lesson to be taken away is that arrogance is not a virtue and is a costly weapon to wield. Many times, a breakup that encompasses an entire team involves arrogance on somebody’s part. In Scooby-Doo, they let their egos get the best of them and began to believe that they could get things done better by themselves.
Putting all your eggs in one basket is a dangerous move in the MSP world and is likewise found to be a bad idea in the Scooby-Doo universe. MSPs often can make this mortal folly without even realizing it. When launching marketing campaigns, have you really looked for flaws in your design or analyzed it inexhaustibly with a different perspective to cover flaws you may have missed or not even thought of? This is one of the benefits of having reliable teammates or coworkers.
Before you run a major program or product, execute it on a small scale and make sure it works before blowing up big in front of all your customers. Doing live updates on your customers creates a situation that can result in massive downtime for them. Always keep the customer in mind and make sure your company is on the ball.
