Technology Company Earns Elite Eco Recognition for Developing World’s First Copier with Erasable Toner
Portland, OR, Sept. 23, 2015 – In recognition for developing the world’s first copier with erasable toner, Toshiba America Business Solutions was selected as a finalist for the Green Electronics Council’s Catalyst Awards during the nonprofit’s Emerging Green 2015 event in Portland, Ore. last night. The Green Electronics Council – also located in Portland – manages EPEAT, the definitive global rating system for greener electronics.
The 2015 Green Electronics Council Catalyst Awards recognize electronics and related infrastructures’ positive impact on the circular economy. For the purposes of the 2015 Awards, circular economy was defined as “an economic system that is safe and restorative by intention and seeks to eradicate waste through the careful design, manufacture, use and handling of products and components.” A third-party Judging Committee managed by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) evaluated qualitative and quantitative evidence to determine the winner. AAAS – based in Washington, D.C. – is an international nonprofit dedicated to advancing science for the benefit all people.
Toshiba’s e-STUDIO™306LP/RD30 – which incorporates a unique toner – is capable of erasing images and text output allowing for the reuse of paper. Users dramatically minimize paper usage – when reusing the same sheet as many as five times – while lessening carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 57 percent, as validated by the British Standards Institute, a global national standards organization. The e-STUDIORD30 unit is where a page’s output is erased. When applying heat, the toner color is effectively removed, thereby erasing any text or images on the page.
