BTA Honors Goldberg with Award & Scholarship

BTA’s general counsel thanked for years of exemplary service

Kansas City, MO, April 3, 2015 — On March 20, during BTA Southeast’s Winter Break district event at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Orlando, Florida, Business Technology Association (BTA; www.bta.org) President Ron Hulett presented BTA General Counsel Bob Goldberg with the newly established Bob Goldberg Legacy Award, acknowledging Goldberg for his exemplary service to the association. Hulett also announced the donation by BTA of $100,000 to the BTA Scholarship Foundation. The donation will be used to create an annual scholarship in Goldberg’s name to ensure his legacy will long endure. The scholarship will serve to help defray the cost of college tuition for the deserving sons and daughters of BTA member dealers for decades to come.
“Once in a great while, you meet someone who has such a positive impact in his life’s work that he captures your attention in a profound way,” Hulett said of Goldberg as he presented the award. “You find that you frequently stop and you take note with admiration and gratitude. You realize you are not alone; that is, others see what you see. And so, together, you see a person who doesn’t view his life’s work as just a job, but instead as a mission to be of service to others whenever possible.”

Goldberg has served the association as its general counsel since 1977. He provides members with no-fee advice and guidance on a diverse range of topics and can evaluate legal needs, review and analyze reseller contracts and serve as a third party to help resolve business disputes without costly and protracted litigation. His service to the association has been invaluable to dealer members throughout the years.

A comment about Goldberg’s dedicated service to the dealer community from BTA member Dawn Abbuhl, president of Repeat Business Systems, Albany, New York, is representative of the types of comments BTA regularly receives from members. “We have benefited from the training and other offerings, but we have gleaned the most from our experiences with BTA’s attorney Bob Goldberg,” she said. “He has provided information on issues as far ranging as business acquisitions to forms for software and IT contracts. He knows the office technology industry better than anyone I have encountered in my 24 years in this industry. Thank you to BTA and Mr. Goldberg for a long history of excellence and commitment to the independent dealer channel.”

Goldberg was visibly moved as he took the podium and accepted the award. “I’m not usually at a loss for words or as emotional, but nothing like this has ever happened in my life,” Goldberg said. “I thank you and I cherish this. And if I only can continue to live up to your expectations and help you, we’ll all be satisfied. Thank you. This is just unbelievable.”
