Philadelphia, PA: The Art Institute of Philadelphia Announces Collaboration with OKI Data Americas to Integrate Groundbreaking Printing Technologies into Curriculum

Academic/Corporate Alliance Provides Students with Exclusive Access to New Device

Philadelphia, PA (August 12, 2014) — The Art Institute of Philadelphia and OKI Data Americas – a global leader in printing technologies – are partnering on the installation and use of the revolutionary new C941dn LED digital color printer. With this collaboration, The Art Institute of Philadelphia becomes the first school of higher learning within North America to adopt a C941dn and integrate it into select curricula. As part of the relationship, The Art Institute of Philadelphia has full use of the C941dn for three years, during which time the school plans to further integrate the device into its curriculum to take advantage of the printer’s diverse capabilities.

clip_image002The two organizations will work collaboratively throughout the course of this engagement to maximize the experience for all involved. This will include regular feedback from The Art Institute of Philadelphia’s staff and students on their experience with the C941dn, as well as ideas for expanding the device’s capabilities. The school’s faculty and staff have been trained to operate the printer.

Students’ access to the C941dn during certain coursework will provide a real world experience that will rival the experience that would be achieved in terms of printing capabilities at a professional graphic arts print shop, as the device yields production grade output. In addition, the C941dn includes an industry-first LED five station toner configuration with cyan, magenta, yellow and black, plus white or clear in the fifth position.

“The Art Institute of Philadelphia is both honored and excited to be the first academic establishment in North America to gain access to the revolutionary printing capabilities of the C941dn from OKI Data Americas and incorporate it into our curriculum and appreciate their support of our students,” said Lisa Nucci, president of The Art Institute of Philadelphia.

“The Art Institute of Philadelphia has been educating students for more than 40 years with a hands-on curriculum that provides marketable skills to prepare them for productive careers in the creative arts industries,” Nucci continued. “With the addition of this new commercial-grade printing capability, we are able to provide students with a similar experience to that which they may have in the graphics industry. Students will be able to apply this unique experience to real world applications as emerging opinion leaders in their field.”

Carl Taylor, vice president of North America marketing for OKI Data Americas, shared, “The collaboration between The Art Institute of Philadelphia and OKI Data Americas benefits both organizations in a multitude of ways. The Art Institute of Philadelphia gains exclusive access to this innovative printing technology, and OKI Data gains unique access to creative minds and feedback that will be valuable in the development of future printing technologies.”

Based on a similar program initiated in Japan by OKI Data Corporation in conjunction with the Tokyo Mode Gauken College of Fashion & Design, The Art Institute of Philadelphia and OKI Data Americas are confident that this collaboration will be successful, mutually-rewarding, and the beginning of a long-standing academic/corporate alliance.
