“We have seen very little change in the fundamental technology surrounding print in the last couple decades”, commented Pharos’ CTO Fred Schempp, “but we believe the next few years will result in dramatic change that will reset customer’s expectations and experience of printing. It is our intent to guide our current and future customers toward the path of best migration on-premises, cloud or hybrid. In the end, our customers have asked us to simplify and reduce their infrastructure.”

DocuWare Group Annual Report Reveals Nearly 25 Percent Growth in 2013
June 3, 2014 – DocuWare Group has released its Annual Report, which indicates positive worldwide growth in 2013. The strong presence in Europe and America was key for DocuWare’s continued growth in 2013. While the document management specialist’s revenue exceeded 14 percent, the acquisition of Westbrook Technologies resulted in overall increased revenue of nearly 25 percent.
Now in its 25th year, the DocuWare Group continues to take steps in becoming the worldwide leader in its market: for the fourth year in a row, they are reporting double-digit growth. The 2013 acquisition of Westbrook Technologies, a well-known provider of ECM solutions in North America, will continue to bolster this success as both product lines move to the 2016 planned integration.
Revenue of 21.4 million euros represented growth of 24.6% for the DocuWare Group. The company reported 12.3% growth or 14.1% without the addition of Westbrook and when taking into account currency fluctuations. For DocuWare’s Authorized Partners (ADPs), this resulted in project revenues of approximately 100 million euros.
The largest growth for the DocuWare Group was witnessed in the U.S. market with a jump of 38.3 percent and together with Westbrook accounted for 47.1 percent of the company’s total revenue. Germany had growth of 15.9 percent, which represents 32.6 percent of total revenue. The remaining revenue, approximately 20 percent, came from sales in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
DocuWare is the only ECM manufacturer that has a presence worldwide – represented by over 500 ADPs around the globe. According to a DocuWare press announcement, the DocuWare Group believes it is well-equipped for market leadership based on this international presence, attractive Partner programs and intrinsic strengths of its software products. The number of new customers this past year was also impressive: for the third year in a row, over 1,000 companies opted for DocuWare.
On the leading edge of technologically, the software company continues to expand its product offering with innovative services and applications. This includes different connections to affordable file hosting services such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. While the number of users of the DocuWare Online cloud solution is not yet at anticipated levels, the company is ideally equipped for an increase in demand. DocuWare was the first provider in Europe to offer a true software-as-a-service solution in early 2012.
In addition, the DMS pioneer added onto its apps for iPhone and Android to also offer document retrieval and workflow integration for the new Windows 8 interface. With its scan app PaperScan, virtually every smartphone can be turned into a mobile scanner. They also introduced Intelligent Indexing (a solution for the automatic categorization of documents) as well as a powerful workflow module with a streamlined graphic designer to further simplify working with DocuWare.
New Epson WorkForce Printers Reportedly Cut Color Printing Cost for Small Business
June 3, 2014 – Epson has announced its new WorkForce business printing solutions featuring 11 models powered by PrecisionCore, the company’s next generation printing technology. These WorkForce models produce print-shop quality color prints, laser-sharp black and color text, and fast print speeds at up to half the printing cost of color laser1 for a range of business environments. Because every model is powered by PrecisionCore, users will experience the same high level print quality no matter which printer they choose.
The new line of printers includes the WorkForce series for SOHO users; WorkForce Pro printers for SMBs and workgroups; and WorkForce wide format for larger paper and scanning sizes typically used by architects, engineers and designers. All WorkForce printers offer several advantages over color laser, such as true-to-life color for consistent tones and colors on all paper types – plain, matte and glossy, as well as faster first page out speed with no warm-up time and without incurring the high cost of supplies inherent with color lasers.
The process by which PrecisionCore print chips increase print speeds is two-fold. The print chips are comprised of a higher number of nozzles in a more condensed area, resulting in more ink flow. Because the print chips are scalable, they can be combined to deliver more ink and boost print speed. The printers are available in two-chip and four-chip configurations, and offer up faster color print speed over previous models.
All WorkForce models are equipped with Ethernet, wireless, and Wi-Fi Direct functionality, offer easy printing from mobile devices across a range of operating systems as well as through Epson Connect; automatic two-sided print, copy, scan and fax functionality; and intuitive color touchscreen control panels.
WorkForce Pro 5000-Series for Networked Business Environments
The WorkForce Pro WF-5690 (multifunction) and WF-5190 (single function) deliver heavy duty and reliable performance with low running costs in networked environments, according to Epson. With its four-chip configuration, the series reportedly delivers up to 50 percent lower printing cost versus color laser, fast print speeds of 20 ISO ppm (black) and 20 ISO ppm (color), and a duty cycle of up to 45,000 pages per month. Businesses will experience less user intervention with two-sided printing, high cartridge yield and up to 580-sheet paper capacity.
Additional features include IT tools such as remote setup and custom settings for multiple printers, and support for popular security protocols to protect confidential documents. The printers support PCL and PostScript, and a best-in-class three-year limited warranty.
WorkForce Pro 4000-Series for Business Workgroups
The WorkForce Pro WF-4640 and WF-4630, offer a four-chip configuration, with up to 50 percent lower printing cost versus color laser, print speeds of 20 ISO ppm (black) and 20 ISO ppm (color) and a 30,000-page per month duty cycle. For versatile paper handling, the WorkForce WF-4630 and WF-4640 offer a 330-sheet and 580-sheet paper capacity, respectively.
WorkForce 3000-Series for Home and Small Offices
The WorkForce WF-3540 and WF-3620 offer a two-chip configuration, delivering up to 40 percent lower printing cost versus color laser, as well as 19 ISO ppm (black) and 10 ISO ppm (color) †, and a 35-page automatic document feeder (ADF). The WorkForce WF-3620 and WorkForce WF-3640 offer a 330-sheet and 580-sheet paper capacity, respectively.
WorkForce 7000-Series for Creative Professionals, Architects, Engineers
The WorkForce WF-7620, WF-7610 and WF-7110 wide format business models offer a two-chip configuration and flexible paper handling with up to 40 percent lower printing cost than color laser. The series delivers fast print speeds: 18 ISO ppm (black) and 10 ISO ppm (color)†, borderless prints up to 13” x 19” and automatic two-sided printing up to 11” x 17”. The WF-7610 and WF-7620 offer 250-sheet and 500-sheet capacity, respectively, and both models deliver automatic two-sided print, copy, scan and fax up to 11” x 17”.
