A California-based law firm is taking a managed service provider to court, claiming the company did not protect it from a ransomware attack, MSSP Alert reported last week.
The law firm, Mastagani Holstedt, claims its managed IT provider, LanTech LLC, did not adequately safeguard the company from a Black Basta infiltration and attack, according to MSSP Alert. The firm is seeking $1 million in damages for the attack, which allegedly occurred in February 2023.
According to MSSP Alert, the suit claims Mastagani Holstedt was forced to pay an undisclosed ransom to regain access to its network. Both Mastagani Holstedt and LanTech LLC are headquartered in Sacramento. LanTech owner Terry Berg and backup provider Acronis were named as defendants, MSSP Alert reported.
The website noted Black Basta has reportedly executed roughly 300 ransomware attacks that have yielded more than $100 million in Bitcoin payments.
