Looking to leverage the changing needs of the work environment, and taking into account data provided by Gartner that estimates 80% of company leaders plan to allow employees to work remotely at least part-time, Canon U.S.A. this week announced the release of four products that can address a variety of work environments, both on-premise and remote.
In advance of the release, Canon U.S.A. conducted a web-based presentation for press and analysts to provide an overview of the products, which speak to the needs of small office and home office (SoHo) work configurations. They consist of two additions to the MAXIFY GX MegaTank Series printers, the GX7020 and GX6020. Also new to the Canon catalog are the PIXMA TS3520 Wireless All-in-One printer and the PIXMA G620 Wireless MegaTank photo printer.
James Booth, Canon U.S.A. marketing manager, walked the audience through the specifics of the MAXIFY products. The units are geared toward the small- and mid-sized offices with up to 20 users, which makes them ideal for verticals including real estate and private clinics, retailers, and educational institutions as well as the home office. The GX7020 and GX6020 offer print speeds of 24 ipm black and white and 15.5 for color. The MegaTank is perhaps its strongest suit, with ink yields of 6,000/9,000 sheets in standard and economy mode, respectively, for black and white; 14,000/21,000 for color, before needing to be refilled.
The units’ four-color ink set is pigment-based, making it largely smudge-resistant. Its continuous ink supply system keeps the total cost of ownership in check, with a running cost of two cents per color print. The 7020 has a maximum sheet capacity of 600, with the 6020 holding 350 sheets. In addition to plain paper, the MAXIFY models can handle window envelopes, labels, glossy paper, banner paper and magnetic sheets. Both machines come with a three-year, 80,000-page warranty.
Booth noted that one of the unique features of the ink system is its use of keyed ink bottles, preventing accidental ink dumps into the wrong color tanks. Ink empties into the tank without the need to squeeze it out.
The units also provide for printing via a smartphone or tablet through a free app. User management capabilities enable an admin to restrict printer functions to prevent unauthorized use.
The GX7020 carries an ERP of $899 and the GX6020 is $799.
PIXMA, Photo Printer Additions
Adam Diamond, senior advisor-printer product planning for Canon U.S.A., outlined some of the features of the latest addition to the PIXMA line—the TS3520 Wireless All-in-One Printer and the G620 Wireless MegaTank photo printer. The TS3520 is an easy-to-use model aimed at entry-level users; in fact, a web-based navigation manual for setup enables the user to get up to speed at his/her own pace. It features a four-color ink system, rear tray paper feed, wireless connectivity enabled via a smart device, a 1.5” LCD screen and mobile capabilities including AirPrint and Mopria Print Service. It has an ERP of $79.99.
The Canon MegaTank series is geared toward printing high-quality photos from home, aided by the convenience of the continuous ink supply system. It features a page yield of approximately 3,800 for 4×6” color photo paper prints. It offers an expanded color gamut with six dye-based ChromaLife 100 inks that can produce archival-quality photos. With the ability to print on a variety of paper types, including semi-gloss, gloss, and matte paper, the approximate cost per 4×6” color photo paper print is 25 cents. ERP price for the PIXMA G620 is $299.99.
All four Canon products will be available for retail purchase this month.
