Epson America Inc., a leading provider of printing solutions, today announced the new WorkForce Pro WF-C8000 A3 printer series. Powered by PrecisionCore, the WF-C8000 series features next-generation inkjet printing technology. Easy on the budget, the WF-C8690 multifunction and WF-C8190 single-function printer save users up to 35 percent on printing costs versus color laser and is designed to enhance productivity with auto duplexing features and auto media size detection up to 13×19.” With up to 1,830-sheet paper capacity, print speeds of 24 ISO ppm (black/color) and a fast first page out, the WF-C8000 Series is an ideal solution for busy workgroups.
“Epson is committed to providing solutions for customers in business printing environments that support productive workflows,” said Larry Trevarthen, director of business imaging, Epson America Inc. “As we bring new products to the market, Epson’s goal is to develop unique solutions like the new WF-C8000 A3 Series that will enhance our partnerships as well as bring value to our end users and channel partners.”
Scott Marsic, product manager, Business Imaging for Epson, sat down with ENX Magazine to review some of the details of the A3 refresh—the WF-C8690 and WF-C8190—which updates the 8590 MFP and 8090 single-function devices. Marsic noted that the aesthetic look and feel of the devices are now more in line with Epson’s Enterprise-class devices.
“Across the full line, you’re now getting a common user experience, a more aggressive business look and feel,” Marsic noted.
With a print speed of 24 ISO ppm for black and color and no warmup time, the devices are ideal for the typical 35-page, high-frequency jobs demanded in the office environment. Recommended monthly page output has increased from 5,000 to up to 7,000 pages a month. Black ink yields have increased on the large extra high-capacity cartridges by 15 percent to 11,500 and by 14 percent for color to 8,000 pages/cartridge.
The input tray has a capacity of up to 1,830 (with three optional trays available) and an output tray of 250.
Among the most significant changes, duplex scanning speeds have increased 80 percent while energy usage has decreased 66 percent. These devices also have the ability to support thicker media through the cassettes, up to 200 gsm or 53-lb. index paper. This is up from the predecessor models, which were limited to 90 gsm/24-lb. bond.
The output tray has been shortened by 35 mm, which helps prevent accidental bumping while providing a smaller overall footprint.
Marsic also noted that Epson’s nozzle verification technology—previously available on other WorkForce lines—enables accurate ink placement and optimal resolution. The nozzle verification can detect clogged print heads and adjust ink placement within the surrounding nozzles.
“The benefit is you can enjoy consistent print to print quality and consistent color quality from document to document,” he added.
To help manage printer fleets and keep costs in check, the WF-C8000 Series includes PCL and PostScript 3 support, plus compatibility with ISV and third-party software solutions such as Nuance Equitrac Office/Express, Nuance eCopy ShareScan, PaperCut and nddPrint through Epson Open Platform. The printers come equipped with an intuitive user interface, the aforementioned advanced nozzle verification technology and a robust paper output tray, as previously introduced on the WorkForce Enterprise Series MFPs, the WorkForce Pro WF-C869R and the WF-C5000 Series. They also provide advanced security features and is enabled for remote printer data collection with MPS software solutions from PrintFleet, ECi (FMAudit) and others.
