Like most companies the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) movement is having an impact at Muratec and we believe this will continue to drive business change in 2013. The initial concern of the BYOD movement, as it relates to our industry, is obviously a reduction in print volumes. If companies allow their employees to conduct business on their tablet PC and/or smartphone, that will greatly change how they share information, move documents and print.
We have firsthand experience with this phenomenon as it’s common to attend meetings at Muratec in which a large percentage of attendees are using their tablets to take notes, view documents and share information. As our employees began using their mobile devices at work, and utilizing services such as box.net to store and share their documents, the demand for mobile device printing support accelerated. These demands led us to deploy mobile print solutions throughout our facility and we’ve seen the print volumes steadily increase.
Based on this internal deployment Muratec is working with our dealers to deliver a variety of mobile printing solutions to their customers, as well as promoting simple, cloud-based document workflow solutions to help users access, edit, share and print documents from their mobile devices. Delivering solutions that help companies operate more efficiently in a BYOD world will help dealers address a critical customer need and open up new revenue opportunities in 2013.
